Ruinenberg
Very short history:
-
In 1748 Frederic the Great ordered this antique monument to be build. It
was supposed to be an eyecatcher for the waterreservoir that was supposed
to propel the fountain in front of Sanssouci. (this
is not the fountain you see in the above picture, but the one you see when
looking down from Sancoussi)
-
However, only once, in 1754 - and only for one short hour - the fountain
worked.
-
Only with the construction of a pumping machine orderd by Frederic Willhelm
IV. the fountain was brought to life again.
From here, you could either go back to Sanssouci
or you might want to take a look at the Neue Kammern and the Bildergalerie.
